Everyone loves a fairytale, but then you grow up and actually understand the traumatic and horrible things that happen in them! I guess it can be an analogy for life, sunshine and roses when you are young and then the realisation that things may not be so chirpy.. until you learn to listen to the birds, stop and smell the flowers and appreciate the beautiful details in the everyday.
Hairlooms goes 2 Dimensional
March 29th, 2012
In a world where everything is going 3D I’ve created a piece outside my norm. Granted yes it technically still is 3D, but for me using hair and metals is usually a very sculptural, wear it, touch it feel it process.
This piece is secured behind glass, with a strip of woven hair and brass section cut-out.
The piece is titled ‘goddess’ – its an exploration of the household and suburban life and the aesthetics which are inherent.
Currently on show at Wollongong City Art Gallery as part of the Postcodes from the Edge exhibition
